Boys Behind the Blog: Derrick or Dale?

Within the first few months of dating, I learned that I was competing for Derrick's heart with another love: NASCAR.  Derrick's step-mom had learned this long ago, when she learned how Derrick's dad felt about the sport.  (In case you're wondering, some people don't love their children as much as Derrick and his dad love the Earnhardts.)

I, on the other hand, had never given NASCAR the time of day.  Frankly, watching a car race seemed incredibly boring, like sitting on the side of I-95 for two hours.

But we were still in the honeymoon phase which meant everything was perfect; Derrick could fart and I'd tell him it smelled like peaches.  So when he invited me to the Daytona 500, I said yes without hesitation.

It was not peaches.  In case you didn't know, the Daytona 500 is held in Daytona Beach, FL.  Sounds warm, right?  Well, for some reason that particular night, the temperature freakishly dropped low enough that even the handwarmers in my pockets and two hats on my head couldn't keep me from shivering.  And I had a lot of time to think about that anomaly as we sat there for 2.5 hours as they tried to fix the pothole on the track.

You see, the race normally takes around 3 hours but because of some unprecedented delays, we ended up sitting there for over 8 hours.  Potholes still haunt my dreams to this day.

So without straying too far away from my point, I'll just say that I'm still not a huge NASCAR fan.  But Derrick is, particularly when his favorite, driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., is doing well.  And even more so when random women tell Derrick that he looks like Dale (true story; people have told him this before).

I'm linking up with Mallory to answer some questions about the "Boys Behind the Blog," but I thought I'd spice it up a little and make it interesting for you all.  Instead of just having Derrick answer these questions, I've looked up how Dale answered similar questions (and made up the answers where I couldn't find them) to see if you can figure out which ones are Derrick's answer and which ones are Dale's.

So my one question for you is: Can you tell the difference between Derrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.?

1. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?

Answers:
1. Fort Myers, Florida
2. Mooreseville, North Carolina

2. Sand or snow?

Answers:
1. Sand
2. Depends on the amount and if I am eating it

3. What Winter Olympic sport would you rock at?

Answers:
1. Hockey
2. Bobsled

4. You're cooking a romantic dinner: what is your go-to dish?

Answers:
1. Tacos, steak and chicken and salad. Also, I can cook French toast.
2. Chicken, sweet potato fries, and some sort of vegetable

5.  Fill in the blank: This year, I gave (your wife/girlfriend/fiance's name) a ____________________ for Valentine's Day?

Answers:
1. A necklace, flowers, candy, and a wine and cheese dinner
2. I took her out to dinner.  I also got her roses because I didn't want to give her ammunition.

And now I'm sure you want to know how good you are at distinguishing between a legend in a somewhat irrelevant sport and a random blogger's boyfriend.  So get out your calculators and get ready to crunch a few numbers:

Derricks answers were 1) 1. 2) 2. 3) 1. 4) 2. and 5) 1.

Now, I don't want to say that I am clearly dating the unquestionably superior man in all ways that a man can be superior, but I guess I just did.  Whatever you do, don't tell Dale.

On second thought, maybe you can... I think I'd sort of enjoy a lifetime ban from NASCAR events.

Happy Thursday!
It's the fourth best day of the week... Enjoy it while it lasts.

These questions were brought to you by Mallory and Stephanie for their monthly "Boys Behind the Blog" link-up.  Head on over there and check out some other (less superior) men.  (Just kidding.  Sorta.)

Also, for all of you Skeptical Susans out there who are questioning where I got such obscure information on Dale, I got it here, here, and here.
